Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival at PAST

Columbus, Ohio – May 1, 2016 — Enrich Columbus, a non-profit organization that specializes in the promotion of enrichment activities within the Central Ohio area, is pleased to partner with Math Plus Academy and The PAST Foundation to host Central Ohio’s first ever Julia Robinson Math Festival on Saturday, May 14th from 1:00 to 4:00pm at PAST Innovation Lab, 1003 Kinnear Road. The event is for 4th-10th grade students.

Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival inspires students to explore the richness and beauty of mathematics through activities that encourage collaborative, creative problem-solving. Julia Robinson Mathematics Festivals have been held across the country including at Stanford, UC Berkeley, and Princeton as well as at Pixar and Google. “I’m excited to help bring such an amazing event to Central Ohio and help more students engage in rich mathematical thinking. Students who attend are going to get to do math in a way they don’t usually get to on a day-to-day basis,” said Dr. Raj Shah, founder of Math Plus Academy (www.mathplusacademy.com), an academic enrichment program for K-8 grade students with locations in Powell, New Albany, and Hilliard. Dr. Shah found a partner in Dr. Bart Snapp, Professor of Mathematics at The Ohio State University when he sought to bring this event to Columbus. “To be able to host this event with the help of PAST is only going to make this event a greater success,” said Shah. “This festival is an opportunity for students to discover the joy of doing mathematics. I am thrilled to be part of this, and hope to see a great turnout,” said Dr. Bart Snapp, Professor of Mathematics at The Ohio State University. The festival is a celebration of great ideas and problems in mathematics. We will have dozens of rich math problems and activities led by our volunteers, who are lovers of mathematics from different disciplines, including mathematicians, teachers, engineers, programmers, graduate students, and more. Families can register online. The cost is $10 per student. Supervising adults get in free and the $10 fee can be waived in cases of financial need.
